Sticks and Stones: Defeating the Culture of Bullying and Rediscovering the Power of Character and Empathy - Emily Bazelon First off, I won my copy of this book via a giveaway hosted by Goodreads.

I firmly believe that this book is a resource all schools should invest in, no matter what grade level or type of school it is. I suffered as the target of bullying for most of my school life. Starting in elementary and continuing through to my freshman year of high school, I was teased for various things. I did suffer from depression because of this in junior high but thanks to a close friend I was able to work through it.

I can't help but wonder if something could have been done. Both I and my grandparents tried to get the school to intervene and yet it always seemed as though nothing was ever really done in response to our complaints. Eventually we just gave up complaining and I learned to either let it roll off my back or just take simple satisfaction in the fact that most of my bullies would amount to little later on in life. If I had known then what I know now, thanks to this book, things might have gone differently. As it is, I am thankful I have the knowledge now to hopefully prevent my son being bullied when he gets into school and also to prevent him from becoming a bully. I highly recommend this book to anyone who sees bullying as a problem and wants to know what they can do to help the cause of reducing bullying.
